Pets in BDO
Pets are cute to keep, and they also give your character additional benefits such as EXP and pick up loot for you. Therefore, pets are great to have in Black Desert Online.
However, you also spend money on obtaining pets. Especially if you want to breed your pets to have a higher-tiered pet, then you have to spend money on breeding. Breeding is combining two or more parent pets to have a new one with a higher tier that will give you better stats and higher loot pick-up rate.
How To Get Pets
You may get pets from playing through the story, aside from purchasing them from the Pearl Shop.
You can still use the breeding system with these pets that you get from the storyline to increase their tier. Higher tiered pets increase the rate in which they pick up loot and also increase their special effects. You can see the panda here for instance increases the skill EXP you gain while grinding mobs.
Breeding
When breeding, you should select pets that belong to the same pet family. A dog with a dog for example. The exception to this rule is the Wizard Gosphy, who can be exchanged with any pet except the Young Crimson Dragon. Press the “Exchange” to start. Based on the pet that you pick first, other options will be shown. When you select it, the percentage of the chance to get a higher tier pet shows. If you add an additional pet, the chance of getting a higher tier pet is heightened. As you can see I have 35% chance of it going to a Tier 4 pet.
The highest tier for the pets that you may obtain is tier 4. The level of the pets does not make a difference for the chance of breeding. Even if you breed a lower level pet with a higher level pet, it will have the same effect as breeding two low-level pets.
Even if on the first try, you get a tier 2 rather than a tier 3 because of the chances, you can continue breeding to reach a higher tier until you breed a tier 4. You then must give your pet a new name after you have decided what kind of combination you go for when breeding.
Afterward, you can pick the appearance of your pet. You may choose the random appearance, or you may choose from the given options in which the new pet inherits the appearance of one of the parents that you are breeding together. This way, you may select the kind of appearance that you wish to keep. You may also select a chosen skill you like or a random skill. You may also breed the skills.
