Naru Gear
We will first start with Naru gear, and this is one of the first gear you get when you plan on the season servers as you’re playing through the story. You can expect to get plenty of these gears and pieces for all your slots, but you will also notice that you will get a lot of the Beginner Black Stone.
Beginner black stones are used to enhance(improve) the Naru gear by upgrading it. Now, we will only be worrying about the Naru gear and weapons as we’re not going to be concerned with the accessories outside of just enhancing one ring to PRI for a step in the season pass. Otherwise, the accessories are not very good and can’t be exchanged for Tuvalu ones, so they’re not worth putting our time into.
Fughar
If, for some reason, you’re playing through the season, and you misplaced your Naru gear or need to get new Naru gear, you may talk to Fughar, who you can find in any major town. He allows you to exchange beginner black stones for Naru gear and weapons.
If you still can’t find him for some reason, you should know that he will always be by the stables, so you can use the search engine located at the left top corner of your screen and type in Fughar should pop up right there. You can get more Naru here by exchanging your Beginner Black Stones. For those who are very new, I would give you a quick crash course on some key enhancement terms since this entire guide is about enhancing Naru and Tuvala gear.
Gear in Black Desert
Gear upgrades in BDO start from 1 to 15, and then you progress from Pri (I), Duo (II), Tri (III), Tet (IV), and Pen (V), with Pri to pen being represented by roman numerals from one to five. Another key term would be the fail stacks which you will read about in the later section of this guide. As you fail upgrades, you will get more fail stacks which help you increase your percent chance for successful enhancement.
Enhancing Naru Gear
Enhancing Naru gear is extremely simple as you only need to click the black spirit and click on enhancement which will bring up the window for enhancing. Next, you will need to click your gear piece and put it in the upgrade window and the Beginner Black Stone that you need to enhance.
To upgrade your Naru gear, click on enhance on this gear up to Pen (V). The percent chance on Naru gear is extremely high, and they don’t lose plenty of durabilities when it fails, so don’t worry about using fail stacks on these pieces.
Let’s say that we will be using our chest. For the Naru, we just mashed up the button-up to Pen (V), and it’s very easy to get there. If for some reason, you have the worst RNG in the world and you need to repair the durability, you can get again exchange your Beginner Black Stones for an extra piece from Fughar.
Get an extra chest piece, go to a stablekeeper or a blacksmith, click on repair, recover max durability, click on the extra piece of gear and click recover once restore durability to the piece. If you need to do it more, you need to get more pieces and recover more durability.
Exchanging Your Naru Gear
Once you have your Pen (V) Naru gear and weapons, you can exchange your Naru gear for Tuvalu gear which is going to be our goal gear for the season server and what we are striving to get to PEN as this is the equivalent to Tet (IV) boss armor.
Now with your Pen (V) Naru gear, open your inventory, and you should see a button above the two little black spirit buttons next to your character sheet. You will click that, put your Pen (V) Naru gear in the pop-up window that appears, and then you can exchange it for a PRI (I) Tuvalu.
Now, this is where the fun will begin as enhancing this gear will now use time-filled black stones instead of the Beginner Black Stones, which by the way, you will never run out of those for enhancing the Naru gear.
I always have had extras on the two seasons I’ve done, so don’t even concern yourself with that, but with the Tuvalu gear, we now use time-filled black stones. In addition, you will also most likely notice that you have some other types of black stones.
You’ll have Refined Magical Black Stones, which can give you a guaranteed enhancement of your Tuvalu gear up to Tri Tuvala Ore which is used to purchase Tuvala accessories and potentially one or more Frozen Tide Blackstones.
Tuvala Recommended Failstacks – PRI to PEN
Remember, use the free Frozen Tide Blackstone for the guaranteed enhancement from TET (IV) to PEN (V), and we will prioritize the one you’ll most likely have on your main weapon.
Now for the enhancement process, I’m about to describe, the Nadeer’s Band will also make this easier to prevent you from switching between characters when enhancing. You have to do a simple quest to make your enhancement process in BDO a lot easier.
You can get free failstacks from Fughar with the “Even Sturdier” quests once you have upgraded your Tuvala gear to TRI(+40 for each gear) and TET(+60 stack for each gear).
I used the following stack for my upgrades to get all my Tuvala gear from PRI (I) to PEN (V):
- For PRI to DUO, I would use 0 stacks between +0 and +10 stacks.
- For DUO to TRI, I would use between +10 to +30 stacks.
- For TRI to TET, I would use between +30 to +50 stacks.
- For TET to PEN, I would use between +50 to +70 stacks.
If you fail the TET attempt with fughar’s 40 stack, your gear will bounce back to duo, so you can use the refined stone to get back to tri. It will NOT delete the 40 stack so you can keep going for TET with the same stack as long as you use refined stone to enhance back to tri.
If you fail your PEN enhancement with fughar’s 60 stack, store it in a Nadeer’s parchment slot, so you can use it again when you get back to TET. You will now need extra 30-40 stacks to get back to TET, since you used them up successfuly enhancing to TET before the failed PEN attempt. One quick way is to convert 200 time filled stones into 30 stacks. Season pass, and leveling aid boxes also give some stacks, as well as some of the main quest rewards.
