Witch & Wizard 1v1 Guide

Witch & Wizard pvp is very situational so you need to adapt very fast to many scenarios and use your cooldowns accordingly.

Therefore you should not focus on only doing the combos but make the best out of every cc you land. 

For example as wizard if your opponent gets bounded by cataclysm you should follow the bound with a freeze (learn the timing), then follow up with a combo.

Late game pvp is a lot about predicting skills and reaction time.

That means: if you think the opponent will be close to you soon, precast a grab (“catch”) or react to a certain skill animation. 

For example an inexperienced DK or Mystic will use their awakening w+f or w+rmb directly on you for some damage, you can easily grab her out of that by predicting these skills.

Please note that evasion is not the best choice for large scale and for 1v1 only against full AP players!

It is never wrong to have some backup accuracy items like TET RCE / PEN Bronze Dagger since Witch & Wizard flows have no accuracy on them while also having no “damage reduced in pvp”.

How to improve in large scale

Being good in large scale mostly comes down to experience and knowing what ability to use depending on the situation, the best way to practice this is by doing at least one or two RBF games each day, try to practice dealing as much damage as possible whilst staying alive as much as possible and support your allies! Practicing 1v1 also helps you to learn the finer details about your class.

  • Marg is the best pet summon
  • His body absorbs some projectiles
  • He can hide you, misleading the opponent from knowing whether or not you are cc’d or casting something.

Pet special

  • Marg is faster than arne
  • Shares cd with summoning
  • Stiffs
  • Need to aim on target
  • Not working if locked!
  • If failed, pet goes passive
  • Try to get your opponent between you and your pet
  • Use the skill only while walking 

Teleport

  • Able to unexpectedly jump behind a warrior or valk use Freeze or Grab in warrior/valk back even if they are blocking they will get frozen!
  • Using Hellfire after an accurate Teleport on your opponent is the easiest way of ccing. However this engage is easy to get countered! Not recommended!

    Miscellaneous

  • Use Chain Lightning to slow the opponent (unprotected)
  • Keep Mana Shield & Speed Spell &     Spellbound Heart on cooldown!
  • Resurrection is very important in Nodewars! However – it is unprotected! So watch your surroundings or use Sage´s Memory!
  • Use Lava Pool / E Buff / Ritardando only while walking!
  • Use them whenever you have the time to be unprotected!

Quickslots:

Movement

  • CC from distance Water Sphere ( cancel) or Meteor or Fireball Explosion
  • Bait out gap closers if low hp
  • Teleport for emergency
  • The less you move unprotected the better
  • Emergency: Double TeleportSage´s MemoryPA Healing AuraHealing Lighthouse
  • Sage´s Light for instant 100% HP while being protected in SA
  • Turn your camera swiftly or use mouse movements while Teleport to confuse your opponent.
  • after an awakening skill → Teleport.
  • Very fast after a resisted Grab → almost instant Teleport.
  • + =  Teleport + C swap !
  • Switch to awakening with sideways C swap ! (Fastest method)
  • Switch to awakening with forward C swap for a long frontal guard! 
  • In general sometimes it is best to wait out animations. In most skills your SA or FG is active as long as you are in the animation of the skill. So if you cancel your animation by moving you will be unprotected!
  • Use Hellfire for movement
  • Use Chilling Wave to be protected from ranged cc

Wizard Combos

Grab Combo

 Grab →  Water Sphere → Flow: Aqua Bomb 

→ any skill with down attack 

Bolide Cataclysm Hellfire 

Super Armor Rotation (Basic)

Cataclysm → Aqua Jail → Bolide 

→ Cataclysm → Aqua Jail → Teleport

Freeze Combo (Basics)

  • Damage is reduced while target is frozen, however you can deal full damage as soon as the ice is broken (timing!)
  • In theory you can freeze the target infinite times!
  • In reality you can freeze 3 to 4 times max. Until it bugs out. Fix servers when?
  • You can freeze your opponent best in their stand up animation
  • Freeze does not work while the opponent is still on the ground (bound/knock down/floating)
  • In a freeze combo you have “windows” in which you put in 1 or 2 skills for dots/ debuffs/ damage
  • A window is in between the freezes or after a grab
  • Cast Frigid fog just when the ice Freeze breaks
  • You have a little more time for Freeze and Grab since they are quite fast.

Example:

 Grab → [ Water Sphere]    → Freeze →[ Magic Lighthouse]       → Frigid Fog →[ Lava Field → Machine Gun] → Freeze →[ Ritardando → Hellfire]   → Grab  → [ Water Sphere → Flow: Aqua Bomb    → Cataclysm] 

Freeze Combo Part 1/2:

Grab → [ MMA → Dagger Stab]       → Freeze → [ Magic Lighthouse → Pet Special]  → Frigid Fog → [ Lava Field → MMA]       → Freeze 

Comment:

MMA & Dagger Stab can be replaced by Machine Gun or Water Sphere (for timing).

Use MMA via quickslot → Dagger Stab is a cancel! don’t use it too early!

Freeze via quickslot and use Magic Lighthouse in unawakened – sideways c swap and rmb for Pet Special (see the pet cooldown in the gif) for extra damage between ice breaking and new ice from Frigid Fog!

Sideways c swap for Lava Field into MMA from quickslot. Timing is important here! You need to hit after the ice breaks, but not too late for the next Freeze!

Freeze Combo Part 2/2:

 → [ Ritardando → Hellfire]

→ Grab → [ Water Sphere → Flow: Aqua Bomb       → Cataclysm]

Comment:

The last part for big damage.

The opponent is still frozen so we use the time to slow him with Ritardando. Ritardando has a higher chance to hit when the opponent is cced!

Even if he somehow bugs out – he has a 50% slow for the next 10 seconds!

Now you need to get the timing right again – make it so that Hellfire hits just when the ice breaks to still be able to grab him again.

Now to finish the job just do the standard Grab combo with Water Sphere + Flow: Aqua Bomb for the down smash into Cataclysm. 

After the Grab you can also just use your ultimate if ready.

High AP

  • Grab → [ MMA → Dagger Stab]       → Freeze → [ Magic Lighthouse       → Pet Special → Cataclysm]
  • Hellfire (stun) !→ Water Sphere (knock down) → run closer → Cataclysm

  → Grab → [ Water Sphere

    → Flow: Aqua Bomb → Bolide]

!Here you need to be careful because once again the server/ game is our biggest foe!

Often some characters are bugged and can not get a knock down or bound after getting stunned!

In that case try to quickly grab the opponent or disengage.

If you experience this please write a ticket and raise awareness of this bug!

Tip: It is also possible using Cataclysm/ Bolide/ Hellfire inbetween Freezes if your FPS and casting speed allows it.

This helps in case your opponent bugs out and stands up too fast from a CC and therefore you are already safe in your SA. 

Follow up a bound with a skill that can further cc the opponent (Freeze) or use another damage skill with down attack damage. Don’t use Aqua Jail!

Tip: You need to time Yoke’s golem so it hits your opponent right after he’s out of Freeze and can get full dmg

Also as you are using Toxic Flood and Red Orb walk to your opponent’s back for back attack dmg bonus

Tip: You need Speed Spell to be able to use Voltaic and Freeze during Detonative’s cc, if you don’t have Speed Spell use Freeze instead of Voltaic and Voltaic after Freeze.
