Introduction
There are two types of maids and butlers: storage and marketplace. A storage maid or butler can access your storage in your closest city, and a marketplace one has access to the marketplace from wherever you are.
The only distinction between and a maid and a butler is the gender (maids are female and butlers are male). Regardless of that, they have the same function and feature the same abilities and skills.
How To Get a Maid Or Butler
You can get both a maid or a butler for free by playing through the story of Black Desert, the main quest line through Calpheon. Find it by pressing the O key on your keyboard and navigate to the main tab. You will see the Calpheon Quest Line’s final quest, which is the qualities of the gods.
Playing through all of this will net you the completion of all the black spirit’s special gift quests; two of them give you either a maid or butler. You will get to choose either a storage or a transaction maid/butler.
It is recommended to pick one of each, as you are likely to find yourself in situations where you will need both, even if you are going to use the storage maid/butler on way more occasions than any marketplace maid or butler. Some temporary events also give out maids, so be sure to be on the lookout for such events.
Unfortunately, there aren’t many opportunities to get a free maid or butler for free beside this one. Beyond that, you will have to spend some money to get your hands on them. They are available in the cash shop under the travel aid tab.
How To Use The Storage Function(Storage Maids)
On occasions when your inventory is full, and you have nowhere else to put your things without wasting time, you can use the storage function. To do this, open either your butler or maid interface and click on the storage tab. You will be able to send up to 100 LT to your storage (to the Capital Region storage) to retrieve later on the displayed menu.
As you can see using the storage maid I can access the storage in Calpheon while being outside Calpheon. Remember that the closest place to you won’t always be the capital region. This is a great option for carrying on a lot of weight during your grinding session and want to clear the capacity of your inventory.
Tips and Tricks
Remember: after using either a maid or butler, they go on a 20-minute cooldown, so you’ll have to wait 20 minutes before you can use that same one again. The others you can still use. So the more maids you have the better.
Also, they can only send one item at a time, but they can send a stack of items. For example, items like HP potions or trash loot that stack and have a low weight are the best to use with storage maids.
Capital City
As mentioned before, the staff only goes to the capital city that you’re grinding in. For example, if you’re grinding in Basilisk Den and need to get rid of some weight, the items you send will go to Valencia City instead of Altinova.
Even if the latter is closer Altinova is part of Mediah, whereas Basilisk belongs to Valencia. You have to keep this in mind before using a storage maid or butler, so you don’t struggle all over the map to find your items.
Marketplace Maids
These maids and butlers will come in super handy when you are out in the middle of nowhere and need something from your central market. This function will allow you to get it without having to head back to the city.
To do that, press the Maid/Butler list as previously shown but this time press the “Open Central Market”.
Now you can access the central market from afar. If you are a lifeskiller, we recommend that you use marketplace maids for storage instead of storage maids, you’ll be able to deposit way more of a single material, such as meat or blood with marketplace maids. Items also stack in the Warehouse, so your storage doesn’t get clogged up.
After you have purchased your desired item, click on your maid or butler, navigate the marketplace tab, open Central Market, and bring it to you. So this allows you to both deposit items, buy/sell, and withdraw items.
For example, you can use this if you need a quest item and you forgot to pick it up at the city while you were there, simply buy one and have your maid bring it in.
The same rules as with storage maids apply: 20-minute cool down, 100 weight capacity, and they can only move one item at a time or multiple items as long as they are in a stack of one item.
