Elder Scrolls Online Daily Reset Guide

Elder Scrolls Online has various actions, resetting daily. That includes daily quests, dungeons, and fence limits. You could consider the time of reset to keep on a continuous gaming flow. It would help you not only to avoid waiting but also to get the most bonuses for quests.

Dailies

The daily quests allow getting additional rewards, unique items, and experience. They are limited to one per day in a category. You are not allowed to complete more than 40 quests daily in total. To enter quests you might need to be at a particular level or have completed other quests. However, other quests are available even for newcomers with zero experience.

The writs are the easiest quests, which let you receive much of reward in a short time. The perfect choice for those starting to play. As a first step, you need to get a certificate from a trainer NPC by completing a quite easy task. At a time there can be only one quest, so only one certification, active, but you can later get other certificates one by one for each of six professions (equipment crafting: Blacksmithing, Woodworking, Clothing; consumable crafting: Alchemy, Provisioning, Enchanting).

After the certification is done, daily Crafting Writs become available – one for each profession. To complete the quest, you need materials, however, the reward costs much more than the materials you buy. For the completion, a player will receive materials (with a chance of rare gold materials), experience and Master Writs – a special task with higher complexity and better rewards.

There are other solo quests, which do not require to build up a team. Some quests that meant to be completed in a group of four, you can still complete alone if you feel confident. The quests of a specific zone drop different motifs. That’s why you are suggested to play in the zones, which can give you the motifs you’re interested in. To get access to some quests you might need to have DLCs.

The daily quests may be shared. That means you get every day a random quest from a quest giver. However, you can share it with someone else or ask another player to share his quest with you. You can then take on the quest on your own or with a group. Sharing quests in a group is an effective practice to get quickly through quests and get rewards. All the daily quests reset at 2 am EST.

Dungeons

Dungeons are a kind of quest that generally requires the teamwork of four: two damage dealers, one healer, and one tank. The activity is more challenging and has, for example, multiple bosses to fight, each having its features to deal with. However, the team will receive a unique set of items for the bosses.

To take part in a dungeon you should have the tenth level as a minimum. The dungeons are marked with a sign on a map. To join the team you need to get into the queue, choosing your desired role. There are also specific modes:

Random Veteran Dungeon. You will join a random dungeon with a higher difficulty (veteran mode). Random Normal Dungeon. You will still get in a random group but with a normal difficulty level. Specific Dungeon. You choose on your own, which particular group you want to join.

The number of dungeons per day is not limited. However, if you play the first time today and in one of the random modes, you will get a daily premium bonus. For specific dungeon mode, as well as for the next dungeons on the same day, you will get a regular reward only.

The dungeons have different difficulty and some of them have more than one version, so you can decide on your own at which level you want to enter. But at level 45, you can join the Undaunted guild and get a new skill line. Here you will need to take on pledges. These are tasks to defeat the bosses within particular dungeons. If successful, you will receive unique rewards, which are also unable through other activities.

The pledges are daily activities and you can get up to three of them per day. For the completion, you additionally receive keys: one for normal and veteran mode, and two keys for the hard mode of bosses. The keys let you open chests with random monster set items.

The premium bonus reward reset occurs every 20 hours and has no particular time. The pledges reset each day at 2 am EST, similarly to other daily quests.

Fence limit

As theft theoretically could give some players plenty of money, there are restrictions on a number of items to be stolen and sold. At the first level, the number is 50 per day. Legerdemain Skills (passive skills) allow making the chances of successful stealing higher. You can unlock the skills by moving on to the higher Legerdemain Ranks by investing points. You earn them by stealing items of various difficulties. For simple chests, you will receive 1 point, for the intermediate ones – 2 points, and for the advanced – 4 points. There is also the Trafficker skill that allows having more fence interactions per day. Moving on to the higher rank of the skill, you multiply the number of fence interactions by a percentage:

I Rank – 120%;II Rank – 140%;III Rank – 160%;IV Rank – 180%.

Generally, you can increase the fence limit up to 140 a day.

The time of the fence limit reset is related to the North American server. The full reset occurs every day at 10 pm EST (or 11 pm EDT).

So nice planning of your gaming will let you not to get bored with waiting times in Elder Scrolls Online. It will also provide you with the most efficient way to get most of the rewards for daily quests. Moreover, the variety allows to gather ultimate gaming experience – you can complete up to 40 different quests a day.

Introduction

The Elder Scrolls Online is a massively multiplayer online game, and as such, sustains a player-based economy. Many MMOs of similar size encourage completely free trade amongst players via an auction house, galactic trade network, or other lore-based interfaces. Usually, this means every player in a particular world, shard or server can view all the items listed in one interconnected marketplace.

Guild Stores

Instead of a single, server-wide auction house, ESO handles its economy through guilds. As with other MMOs, guilds are player founded organizations that come together for a common purpose. Some focus on PvP or PvE content, while others focus on economic opportunities.

Every guild, once the 50 member threshold is achieved, gets access to a Guild Store. Guild members with permissions can buy and sell to each other, via the Guild Store selection at any reputable Banker.

Selling items in a guild store comes with costs3. Upon posting an item for sale, the store charges the seller a 1% deposit, returned upon a successful sale. Once sold, there is a 3.5% tax paid to the guild’s coffers, and an additional 3.5% is lost as a gold sink mechanic. An offering to the forces of Oblivion, I suppose.

The guild tax is small, so many guilds will supplement income with donations, fundraising events like raffles, or even charge a weekly fee for access to the store. Guilds can be joined through chat or the Guild Finder tool. The Guild Finder can search through all guilds on your server by preferred activity, though there is a lot of overlap. Players may be members of up to five different guilds, regardless of Alliance. Guildmates in other Alliances are still fair game in PvP, though!

It should go without saying that, as with any online interaction, your mileage may vary. Most guilds you come across are generally friendly and eager to teach new players. Regardless of your preferred gameplay style and motivations, guildmates want you to be successful in making the guild more successful, and finding a mentor can be a snap.

Of course, ESO is an MMO, and no MMO exists without griefers, trolls, and various Internet ne’er-do-wells. PvP griefing is limited to Cyrodiil, fortunately, but there are plenty of known guild spies and bank robbers out there. Trader bidding can get competitive, and the big guilds want to control the best Traders. Spying is more common than you’d think, so make sure to heed any blacklists maintained by your guild.

Guild Traders

Additionally, instead of being separated by the server (EU, NA, PS4, XBone), each zone is also treated separately. Every area in ESO, from Auridon to Wrothgar, has several Guild Traders located in cities and, occasionally, at important crossroads or villages.

Guilds can bid for access to a Guild Trader to allow non-guild players to buy from their store. This is a challenge due to the limited number of Traders available and hundreds of guilds competing for them. Guilds bid weekly for their preferred Traders, and the most popular can cost more than 10 million gold to win them!

The most popular Traders can vary from platform to platform and server to server and can change as different zones traffic fluctuates based on events, changes to endgame meta, and time of day.

All told, there are 197 Guild Traders across Tamriel, not counting Cyrodiil. Cyrodiil, the frontline of ESO’s three-way PvP campaigns, does not offer any Guild Traders, as we know them elsewhere. In Cyrodiil, Keeps are strong strategic points that change hands constantly between Alliances. Each Keep, once captured, offers a siege weapon trader, the Keep Quartermaster who also allows access to the store of the guild controlling the keep.2

With so many guilds and so many Traders available, pricing can be tricky. Console players are often limited to merely asking around at each Trader in a zone to find the best deals and then pricing your goods accordingly. Most commonly purchased items, such as crafting materials, will tend to maintain stable prices in every zone. Big sellers such as Best-in-Slot (BiS) gear items can fluctuate wildly across zones.

Addons and Mods

PC players have a distinct advantage over console players in the form of mods. Nexusmods.com, esoui.com, and Minion.mmoui.com offer easy to use and extensively tested mods granting players powerful tools in managing their economic needs. While these add-ons are not considered cheating, per se, they do allow for powerful customization and less frenetic trading experience.

The most powerful, in my humble opinion, is MasterMerchant (MM) by Philgo684 allows the player to track all activity across all available guild stores and adds filters and functionality to the guild store interface to make searching, comparing, and undercutting easier.

Another powerful tool is Tamriel Trade Center (TTC) by Steven Chen5. This client-based addon scans and tracks sales activities across every Trader you talk to, even if they are not your guild! TTC also uploads this information to their database and keeps you updated in-game to price trends across Tamriel.

Tips on Making Gold

Getting into more lucrative guilds that consistently get the top traders can be a process and usually involves some investment capital to pay steep weekly fees or mandatory “donations” for access to the store. Be wary of these guilds and on the lookout for embezzlers.

The mid-tier guilds are often the best place to start. Fees are smaller, if not nonexistent, and leadership will usually bid on realistic Traders that, may not be the best, still get some decent traffic during peak hours.

Never post a sale of less than 99 gold — stack items to get the price up or sell in zone chat instead. Help keep your store uncluttered with junk, help the guild earn, and you will also manage your store slots more efficiently.

Do the legwork and research your pricing to stay competitive while not undercutting your guildmates. People notice that kind of thing and complain. If you are a new member of a 400 member guild, doing that once can get you kicked.

If that 7% skimmed off the top of your sales is a deal-breaker, go Independent. As with any freelancer, marketing and point of sale are all on you, but you can avoid taxes that can add up when you are selling a stack of Dreugh Wax for 800,000 gold. Point of sale is handled through direct trading or cash on delivery (COD) mail. However, COD mail charges a postage fee depending upon the value of the item, paid by the buyer.

Raw crafting materials are more valuable than refined. The refining process grants inspiration to level crafting skills, so don’t underestimate the value of farming nodes while on your adventures.

Introduction

The world of Elder Scrolls Online is a vast space full of excellent ideas, missions, and playstyles. With DLC being added at a surprising rate (most recently the Elsweyr DLC), it is thought that this game is so full of content and expansions that Bethesda has all bases covered. While this can be seen as real for the most part, there is always something more that can be added to the universe.

This is where ESO “Addons” come into play. Addons can most simply be described as being similar to mods. Still, they do not change core aspects of gameplay as many mods for other Bethesda titles. This is an online game, after all. Think of addons as non-game-breaking “mods” that Bethesda has approved.

These Addons, What Can They Do?

ESO addons cover a vast array of different categories and provide a variety of different functions. There are over 500 Addons on offer for Elder Scrolls Online with more being added every day. Going through all of them isn’t really feasible, but we can certainly speak about some of the categories available.

ESO add-ons can cover anything from crafting, quests and leveling, guild tweaks, chat and communication improvements, PVP tweaks, just to name a few. To find the best addons for yourself, figure out what playstyle you are going for, and browse the multiple ESO addon library websites.

Two of the biggest library sites are curseforge.com/teso and esoui.com/addons. Here you will find a plethora of addons for the game, all neatly organized into categorized folders. Take your time going through these addons; like other Bethesda games, the player base is dedicated to improving this game by any means. There may be a tonne of add-ons to go through, but you may be surprised at the quality of some available.

How Do I Set Up ESO Addons?

Upon first glance, setting up ESO Addons can be a jarringly-overwhelming experience. There are two main ways to set up ESO Addons; manually or through third-party software. Here I will do my best to guide you through the manual process as easy as I can. It is important to know straight off the bat, that ESO Addon’s are only available for the PC port of the game. Console users, unfortunately, do not have access to installing addons.

Regardless, we begin by ensuring that you have a folder for your addons in the ESO program files. You can find this out by following the steps below.

enter your c: driveUsers > your profiledocumentsElder Scrolls OnlineLive

Once you open the “Live” folder, there should be a folder titled “Addons.” If you do not have this folder, make sure to add one under the “Live” folder listed above. This is where you will store all your addons.

From here, we need to download the original addon file. Once you have searched your preferred addon library and found the one you wish to download, click the big “download” button. Your addon will be downloaded as a .ZIP file, so make sure you have a program to unzip this. (WinRAR is my personal choice, 7ZIP is also a good alternative – both free). Let the download finish, unzip the file, and extract it to the “Addons” folder we mentioned before.

After this, you are mostly finished! Boot up your ESO game, navigate to the start menu, and you will find a new subheading called Addons. Open this, and you will find all the addons currently installed on your game.

It is worth noting that occasionally, an installed addon will read “OUT OF DATE.” This simply means that this addon is not supported by the current build of ESO. Keep in mind that the addon will still work if it is in this state, but it is not as stable as one that IS in date. To fix this, you must delete the out of date addon, and find an updated version that will work with the current build.

It can definitely be frustrating (and disheartening!). To go through the effort of manually finding, extracting, and installing an addon, only to find you need to do it all over again. To combat this, there is a handy little piece of software available to download that will help you with these tasks. We will go through that now.

Minion; What Is It and What Does It Do?

The easiest way to describe Minion is that it acts as a “central hub’ for all of your addons. This means the job of installing, updating, and even finding addons is much simpler and more streamlined. You can download Minion through minion.mmoui/download. Once you download, install, and open Minion for the first time, it will begin to scan for compatible games.

Once it has found ESO, you will see the full list of all the addons you currently have installed. From this page, Minion can actually update your addons for you, at the click of a button. It even has the option to turn on auto-update, which (as stated) will update your addons when a new ESO patch is installed. This saves you countless times needing to uninstall and reinstall all of your add-ons every time Bethesda releases a new patch.

Minion can also be used as an add-on library as well! If you click the “find more” tab in the program, it will take you to a list of available addons. To search by category, simply click the dropdown box at the top of your screen, and view to your heart’s content.

Minion is an incredibly time-effective, easy way to manage, install, and look for add-ons. What’s more, is it is entirely free to download!

As stated in the introduction, the world of Elder Scrolls is vast and seems to be never-ending. Addons simply enhance the game experience further and allow you to view and play ESO in a completely different way. With minion, addons are easy to try, and if you don’t like, just as easy to delete.

Every seasoned ESO player who is looking for a little more out of the experience should certainly consider looking into addons.

Introduction

Elder Scrolls Online is an MMORPG published by Zenimax Online Studios. Released in 2014, Elder Scrolls Online is set in the same universe as Bethesda’s best-selling “The Elder Scrolls” series, including such well-known titles as Morrowind and Skyrim.

Which platforms are ESO available on?

Elder Scrolls Online is available to play on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Cross-platform Functionality and Servers

ESO is divided both by platform and location into several different servers, with the two location servers being the North American and European Union mega-servers.

There is both an EU and an American server for Xbox One for PlayStation 4 and for PC players. In addition to this, there is a Public Test Server available only to PC players, where patches and downloadable content can be play-tested before the full release.

There is no cross-over or cross-functionality between the different platforms. An Xbox One player will only ever be on their server with other Xbox One players, and the same goes for those on the other platforms as well. To be able to play on another platform, if you already have an account on one, would mean buying a second ESO account for the platform in question. So for example, if our Xbox One player had friends who owned the PC version of the game, they would need to buy it on PC to play with them.

However, the same is not true of the location servers, these can be swapped between so long as the servers are on the same platform. So, for example, a PC player who is on the EU mega-server can quite easily switch to the North American mega-server. This can be done by logging out to the main screen and selecting which server they want to log in on. This was also possible to do on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, through the server select option.

Characters, Collections, DLC and expansions.

However, not all information is shared between servers, even if they are on the same platform. Characters are not shared between servers, a character created on the North American server will only ever exist there. It cannot ever be played on or transferred to the European server.

Equally, items cannot be transferred from one server to another, even though, for example, the in-game banking and guild trader systems.

This also applies to any items or upgrades that may be bought from the Crown Store, ESO’s in-game shop. The Crown Store contains a vast array of upgrades, everything from the purely cosmetic, such as mounts and costumes, to unlocking furnishing, player homes, and extra character slots. This also applies to the smaller DLC content, those such as Orsinium, the Clockwork City, or Dark Brotherhood. All of these are both account and server bound, so long as they are purchased via the Crown Store.

The only exception to this is if DLC content is purchased outside of the game, for example, if buying the “Gold Edition.” This allows for that DLC content and that only to be available on both servers.

However, this does not apply to the various “chapters” for the game, the more substantial expansions of Morrowind, Summerset, and Elsweyr. This content continues to be accessible, regardless of which server you use.

As with the platforms themselves, chapter access is account bound. If you had ESO on both PlayStation 4 and PC, you would still need to buy the Elsweyr chapter on PlayStation, despite if you have already done so on your PC account.

ESO Plus

ESO Plus is a subscription service for ESO, which provides specific bonuses for those willing to pay for it on an ongoing basis. Most notably, ESO Plus offers free access to all downloadable content, which are not expansions for free. As it is bound to the account and works on either server, the subscriber can then access all DLC on both accounts. If they are using ESO Plus, giving them a workaround to avoid the problems of them being account bound.

Also, the bonuses from ESO Plus, such as improved bank capacity and experience gain, apply to your account regardless of which server you are playing on.

The in-game currency provided by an ESO Plus subscription, the “crowns,” which are spent in the Crown Store, are also shared between both servers. So if you have 10,000 crowns on the NA server, it will also be 10,000 crowns on the EU server. And if you were to spend 5,000 crowns on the EU server, you would have 5,000 crowns left on both servers.

ESO Plus is also bound to your platform, if you have ESO Plus on PC, you would have to subscribe again for your Xbox One account. The “craft bag” provided by ESO Plus, giving you infinite storage space for all crafting materials, will not share materials from both servers. In effect, you get two craft bags, depending on which server you are playing on at that time.

Summary

So, it’s a little complex, all in all, looking at how cross-platform and server functionality works!

The main thing to keep in mind is that the platforms are hard separations. There is absolutely no crossover at all between them – while the location servers have more differences. In general, everything purchased through the in-game Crown Store is only available on the server it’s purchased on. Still, anything purchased outside of the store, such as the chapter expansions and ESO Plus, will apply to your entire account on that platform.

Introduction

The Elder Scrolls Online is quite often overlooked in the Elder Scrolls series as a game not worth playing. This pretense seems to come from ancient reviews from when the game was first announced.

I have been an advocate for people to try this game for the last several months, as it is very cheap to pick up and easy to get sucked into. In this guide, we will go over the initial costs of the game, the monthly subscription price, and an overview of the available DLC’s. With Update 24 just being released into the game, and reviews as mostly positive on steam now is a better time than ever to jump into the world of ESO.

ESO Price

Let’s get right into it with arguably the most important aspect when thinking of purchasing a new game; the price. The benefit here is that the base game can be found for dirt cheap, whether it be new & sealed, or a pre-owned copy. With a little scouting online, you can find the base game for such prices as a measly $5 and up to $39.99 for expansion editions. (the Elsweyr Edition, for example) from sites like Best Buy and Target.

ESO, in all its editions, is very often on sale. Nearly every time I walk into a video game shop, I usually see at least three different copies of the game in the sale bins. If online shopping is your thing, currently, you can find copies of the game on sale for as little as $13.99. Buying off steam is also feasible, as it goes on sale quite regularly for 50% off (this is the case currently, with the game costing $17.99)

Now, you may be thinking, “Is it really worth purchasing the base game? Surely chump change won’t get me much enjoyment at all”. There are several reasons as to why the entry price is so low compared to newer editions of the game. First off, the base game was released in 2014, making it five and a half years old at this point (time of writing Nov 2019), hence the ridiculously cheap price point. Secondly, you do not receive the DLC Expansion Packs with the base game, but rest assured; there is a way to play all 12 DLCs with just the base game… we will get into that shortly.

ESO Plus

As mentioned earlier, there is certainly a reason the base game (and overall initial cost) is so low. That reason is Expansion DLC’s and the Elder Scrolls Online Plus, model. We will go through the ESO Plus Subscription service now, and cover DLC later.

The ESO+ subscription model has multiple benefits. This service can be purchased at a price point of $14.99, 13.99, and 11.99 per month for a 1, 3, and half-yearly subscription (respectively). This means the cheapest cost for a year-long subscription would work out at $155. This is undoubtedly a premium price, and there is undoubtedly a reason for this. Note (ESO Plus Subscriptions occasionally go on sale).

The most noteworthy reason the subscription carries such a hefty price-tag is that upon purchasing any length of the subscription. You instantly receive access to every single expansion pack to date (these include Wrathstone, Summerset, Murkmire, Wolfhunter, Dragon Bones, Clockwork City, and Morrowind, just to name a few!).

This includes 12 expansion packs, each with complete storylines, extra play-styles, and more. Along with this incredible offering, there are many other perks included in the purchase of an ESO subscription. You receive 1650 “crowns” – the in-game currency – each month; This means the subscription basically pays for itself alone – as 1500 crowns cost 15.95.

There are also exclusive ESO Plus deals in the In-game store, you receive bonus XP Boosts towards certain traits, double the regular carrying/inventory space, and more. You can certainly see why the price point is often viewed as “extreme.”

The best part about all this is that nothing is stopping a hesitant player from spending $14 on a monthly subscription, purely just to try it out. If you don’t enjoy the vast expansions you’ve been able to experience over the 30 days, the most you lose is a little bit of money and time. ESO Plus is a brilliantly structured service that is well worth the money, with the benefit of being cheap and easy to trial.

With the most noteworthy part of The Elder Scrolls Online experience being the expansion packs, we should probably take a look at some of them a little more in-depth. While we, unfortunately, won’t have enough time to go through all 12, as they are all basically their own full-fledged games, we can certainly look at a couple of standouts.

An important thing to note about each DLC is you can purchase them permanently by buying them individually for between $15 and $40, depending on sales and how recent the DLC is. Each individual expansion comes with its own new storyline, a completely new region – or “zone” to explore, and its own new play styles and characters.

You can start each expansion as a brand new ESO player or a seasoned veteran of the game, this makes it easy to pick and choose if you don’t feel like going down the ESO Plus route. My personal favorite part of the ESO expansions are the zones they introduce to the game. Many of these regions are pulled straight from previous Elder Scrolls titles, and the nostalgia trip is impeccable if you are a long-time fan of the series. Being able to experience new storylines in familiar places is one of my favorite aspects of the game.

ESO DLC’s

Let’s focus on two of (in my opinion) the most noteworthy DLC’s.

Morrowind was released in June of 2017, and takes inspiration from – you guessed it – a previous game in the series, Elder Scrolls III. Along with a considerable amount of new story content (an estimated 30+ hours!) and the nostalgia of re-exploring Vvardenfell, Morrowind also gives you access to a new 4v4v4 mode, a new Class with a ruthlessly strong ally who will fight beside you, and a new trial.

The main storyline is set roughly 700 years before the events of Elder Scrolls 3. The region is filled with all sorts of landscapes, from thick forests to barren, volcano affected environments, as well as a distinctive look at the still-under-construction Vivec City. If you were a fan of The Elder Scrolls III, this is a brilliant expansion to start off with and is undoubtedly one of my favorites.

Morrowind is still one of the most significant expansions to date. I mean come on, a full 30-hour story in a DLC? That’s incredible! Morrowing can be found for between 10 and 15 dollars online – certainly a worth it investment.

Dark Brotherhood is an expansion that was initially released in May of 2016. The exciting thing with Dark Brotherhood is the fact that the expansion comes with an additional base-game patch, which packs even more new content into the game than usual. Dark Brotherhood introduces players to a zone called the Gold Coast, a calming and beautiful province that features sunny beaches and a vast township.

My favorite aspect of the Dark Brotherhood expansion is the opportunity to become an “Assassin for Hire,” which provides a stealthy play style to the game – a rare occurrence. If you’re anything like me, you’ve always enjoyed the hidden aspects of previous Elder Scrolls titles, so this is a welcome change. A notable point of the Assassin for Hire play style is the gut-wrenchingly gory executions, which are reminiscent of the performances from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. As well as being able to take on the role of an Assassin, you can also dress the part in several new costumes that will make you feel right at home in the brotherhood. You will also gain access to unique armor, weapons, and gear, some of which are incredibly powerful. The Dark Brotherhood DLC can be purchased in the ESO shop for 2000 crowns (around 20 dollars)

Conclusion

You would be hard-pressed to find a title that still receives such consistent updates and support as ESO, a game that is nearing 6 years old. While in previous years, the game was not nearly as fleshed out as it is today, I believe you are doing yourself an injustice by not giving this game a go. With the vast amount of play styles on offer, the massive signature ESO open world, locations, and a plethora of quests, there is certainly no shortage of fun to be had here.

The Elder Scrolls Online is an excellent introduction to the Elder Scrolls Universe and an incredible re-visit to Elder Scrolls veterans.

I hope this guide has provided an informative – but concise – look into the world of Elder Scrolls Online. I genuinely believe this is a game worth at least a dozen hours of every Bethesda, and gaming fans time as a whole.

Introduction

Are you looking to get into The Elder Scrolls Online in 2019?

Then you’ve come to the right place!

This guide was made to help you get started on your journey in the game, even if you know nothing about The Elder Scrolls Online.

It is highly recommended to read everything that is here, even before creating your first character, as this guide can answer 90% of doubts new players have.

Part 1 – Before You Begin Your Journey

Before we begin talking gameplay, let’s talk money.

ESO Plus

Although ESO has no monthly fee, it does have something akin to a “VIP membership” where the player can pay a monthly subscription.

This subscription is known as ESO Plus, and players aren’t obligated to purchase it.

Those who own it don’t get stronger or progress faster than other players. The game has no such benefit.

But it does have its advantages, such as access to all DLCs and a monthly reward of Crowns (the official store’s currency).

DLCs

Many players have doubts regarding DLCs.

Do they make a difference in the gameplay experience? Which ones should you buy?

First of all, you can play The Elder Scrolls Online and have a great time without DLCs.

However, certain pieces of equipment for specific combinations and builds that are DLC-exclusive.

But don’t worry about your wallet just yet!

The base game is vibrant, and many of the game’s builds don’t need DLC equipment, and they won’t make you stronger than other players.

ESO has over 300 different sets of equipment; You can explore a bunch of combinations without owning a single DLC.

Should you sign ESO Plus or buy DLCs when you’ve just begun playing?

The answer is: No!

There is no point in starting with a lot of additional content that you might never experience.

You should only buy DLCs that contain equipment or content that you’re confident you need or want.

It’s after you’ve experienced the game and you’re sure you like it and want to keep playing it, that should you put your money on it.

Part 2 – The Start Of Your Journey

Which Class to Pick?

Ahh… the dreaded question.

Is the class I like viable? Is it strong? Can I use X, Y, or Z build on this class?

First of all, every class is viable and has viable builds in every role (Tank, DPS, and Heal).

And secondly, every class has a great variety of what equipment they can use. Weapons and armor aren’t class-locked, meaning you can use any weapon and any armor type with any class!

Of course, some classes will be better than others in specific circumstances.

But you can and should play whatever class you want!

I recommend you choose to play with what you have the most fun with because the reality is that you can reach the endgame content with any class.

If you’re not familiar with the classes, here’s a short description of each one, see if you find anything that catches your attention:

Dragonknight – As the class’ name implies, the Dragonknight is a ferocious warrior that uses destructive fire magic to eliminate its enemies.

Warden (Morrowind DLC) – Connected to nature and the wilds, Wardens can summon powerful animals to aid them, use nature’s power to heal allies, or freeze enemies to the bone with ice skills.

Necromancer (Elsweyr DLC) – These commanders of the dead can suck the life out of enemies, animate powerful undead minions, and even use bone and flesh to empower themselves.

Leveling Up

There are several ways to level a character. You can gain experience through quests, leveling professions, discovering locations, accomplishing achievements, grinding or doing dungeons.

It’s recommended that you do the game’s quests because they give you a natural, easy-to-follow progression, on top of achievements that reward you with new titles and colors to dye your equipment.

But if you don’t like the questing route, you can go through a somewhat faster but monotonous way: by griding.

By increasing your level, you will gain Attribute not only Points, which can be spent on Health, Magicka, and Stamina, but also Skill Points that can be spent on Skill Lines.

The maximum level for characters is 50.

But leveling progression doesn’t stop at level 50!

Champion Points

Champion Points are particular levels unlocked after your first character reaches level 50, and they work in the same way as usual levels.

Champion Points increase your character’s Health, Magicka and Stamina

And they have a unique advantage: they’re tied to the account and aren’t exclusive to a single character.

For example: once you have achieved 100 points for a single character, all of your other characters will have also have 100 points to use.

Another essential thing to note is that the maximum equipment level of the game is CP160 (160 champion points), which means that getting to CP160 should be one of your progression goals.

CP has two different maximum levels.

The first is at 810, where every point you earn after 810 cannot be spent on new Champion Point Passives.

The second is at 3600 points. After 3600, you can’t gain any more Champion Points or experience.

NPC Guilds

Players can join various NPC Guilds, regardless of their Alliance.

NPC Guilds include the Mage’s Guild, the Fighter’s Guild, and the Undaunted. Three more guilds are present through DLCS: the Thieves Guild, the Dark Brotherhood, and the Psijic Order.

An essential thing you should do is become a member of all of the three non-DLC guilds (Mage’s Guild, Fighter’s Guild, and the Undaunted) as soon as you can by getting an invitation from a specific NPC.

The NPC that gives you the invitation is different for each Alliance and for each guild. You should also try to join the DLC Guilds (Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, and Psijic Order), although joining those guilds can be a little trickier.

The reason for joining Guilds is that each of them will give you a unique line of skills, as well as several quests.

Once you join a guild, you immediately unlock their skill line. As you increase reputation with the specific guild, your skill line will progress.

Each guild will require individual tasks and quests to be accomplished to develop their skill lines further.

For example, the Fighter’s Guild will ask you to kill Undead and Daedras, while the Mage’s Guild will ask you to collect different lore books spread throughout the world.

How to Repair Equipment

You can repair your armor at any game vendor, or by buying and using repair kits.

Weapons, on the other hand, don’t break.

Enchanted weapons do need to be recharged, though.

To recharge a weapon, you will need a Soul Gem. Then you need to double-click on the Soul Gem, and the energy will transfer to the weapon.

You can also use Varla Stones, which you find in dungeons, and they fully recharge all items in your inventory, but be cautious of using them, because they are very rare.

Part 3 – Skills

Skill Points

To unlock skills, you need to get Skill Points.

You can earn them by leveling up, completing specific quests, and by picking up skyshards, which are scattered all over Tamriel. Once you collect three skyshard fragments, you will gain one skill point.

How to Level Skills

Skills level up whenever you have them on your skill bar.

You don’t even need to be able to use it.

For instance, if you have a Two-Handed Sword equipped, you can still level up your Bow skill, as long as it’s on your skill bar.

Skill lines level up differently from range to line.

For example, the guild mentioned above skill lines require you to increase your guild’s reputation through quests and other tasks

While weapon and armor skill lines level up when you have the particular item equipped while leveling. For example, having a bow equipped and using it during leveling will progress your bow skills line.

Resetting Skills

It’s common to be afraid of misallocating skill points in the character, but you don’t have to worry. ESO has multiple shrines called Rededication Shrines, where you can reset skill points AND attributes. These are some cities where you can find a shrine:

• In Wayrest, Stormhaven

• Elden Root, Grahtwood

• And Mournhold, Deshaan

Part 4 – Basic Game Mechanics

Light and Heavy Attacks

Light attacks do a lot of damage and should be used a lot.

Besides, they activate the enchantment of your weapon, so they should generally be used in-between skills.

Heavy Attacks also do a good amount of damage, but the real benefit of using it is that it restores your character’s resource (Magicka if the attack was with a Staff, and Stamina if the attack didn’t come from a Staff).

Light and Heavy Attacks are “free”; they don’t cost Stamina or Magicka.

Heavy attacks do cost time, though, as they need to be charged up.

Block

Blocking is the most critical mechanism to mitigate the damage received. When you are blocking, you suffer much less damage than you would typically receive, but this mechanism drains the player’s Stamina, and while you are blocking, you won’t regenerate Stamina. Try to use this mechanic only when necessary.

Interrupting

When fighting an enemy that is channeling an attack or skill, you can stop or interrupt their attack or skill, as long as you’re in melee. When you suspend an enemy, they can become stunned or unbalanced, and their attack or skill won’t be activated. This mechanic is essential to prevent the enemy from delivering a mighty blow or healing at a crucial time, interrupting costs Stamina.

Roll Dodge

You can use this mechanic to avoid damaging abilities from enemies, thus not receiving any damage when rolling. This action can be used to escape from Crowd Control (like Stuns and Snares). Roll dodge uses up Stamina.

Stealth

You can move without alarming enemies when you’re in stealth mode. If you make a physical attack from stealth, it will always be a critical hit, and you will immediately stop being in stealth. Your Stamina will be reduced for every second you remain in stealth, and you will move slower while during it.

Part 5 – Professions, Buffs, Inventory and Mounts

Professions

The professions at ESO are vital, and you can level as many as you like. For this, it is recommended to deconstruct most items you find and will not use; this process can be done when interacting with the profession station; more details are given in the Professions Guide. You can also access a table with the number of materials needed to produce items of different levels at this link.

The professions of The Elder Scrolls Online are:

 Blacksmithing

 Woodworking

 Clothing

 Enchanting

 Provisioning

 Alchemy

Jewelcrafting

Each profession is leveled up differently.

Blacksmithing, Woodworking, Tailoring, and Jewelcrafting are leveled up by creating and deconstructing equipment.

Enchanting is leveled with the creation and deconstruction of glyphs.

Provisioning is leveled by cooking food and making drinks.

Alchemy levels by creating potions and poisons.

Buffs (Food, Drink and Mundus Stone)

Food and drinks give you significant buffs, increasing your maximum resources and their recovery.

Foods can generally increase maximum Health, Stamina, and Magicka.

While drinks generally increase the recovery of these resources. You can only use one food or drink at a time.

Another necessary buff is the iconic Stone Mundus. They are altars that invoke the power of a specific constellation, granting a permanent buff to the player.

You’ll encounter many of these stones in your adventures, and although you can have only one Stone Mundus buff active at a time, you can change it to a different stone if you want to.

Inventory

All items you pick up will be stored in your inventory. At first, you will have 60 slots in your inventory, but that number can be increased to a maximum of 140. Each time you purchase an inventory upgrade, the cost for the next upgrade will increase.

The bank is another way to store items, and it has plenty of space to offer, so be sure to put your treasures there to leave plenty of room for new loot in your inventory. You can also upgrade the bank, but it is quite expensive. The bank is shared with your entire account, meaning you can exchange items and gold between your characters.

Mounts

Mounts can be bought and used at any character level. You can purchase multiple mounts, but you can have only one active mount at a time, which you can change whenever you want.

Every character has three different Riding Skills that affect every mount the character uses: Stamina, Speed, and Storage capacity.

You can progress your Riding Skill every 20 hours, so be sure to visit a Stable and level an attribute point every day.

As stated before, the total inventory is 140 slots. However, you can increase your inventory space even further by using mounts, which can add up to an extra 60 slots to your inventory.
